Vaginal birth is the process in which a woman delivers a baby through the birth canal, which is the vagina. This process begins with uterine contractions and the dilation of the cervix. During the dilation stage, the cervix gradually widens and opens up to 10 cm. In the second stage, known as the pushing stage, the mother attempts to push the baby out through the birth canal using her abdominal muscles during contractions. In the final stage, known as the delivery of the placenta (the tissue that provides nutrients and oxygen to the fetus), the placenta separates from the uterus after the baby is born.
