Tonsillectomy, commonly known as tonsil surgery, is the surgical removal of the tonsils. Tonsils are defined as oval-shaped organs located at the back of the throat. While tonsils serve as the body's first line of defense against bacteria and viruses entering through the mouth, their function decreases after adolescence, and tonsillitis becomes rare. Tonsillectomy is used to treat recurrent tonsillitis or breathing problems during sleep. This surgery involves the surgical removal of the tonsils and generally improves the patient's quality of life.
