Otoplasty ( Ear Pinning ) Surgery

Otoplasty ( Ear Pinning ) Surgery

Otoplasty, commonly known as ear pinning surgery, is a surgical intervention performed to correct the shape deformity of the ears present from birth. This condition occurs due to the forward development of ear cartilage and can often cause psychological distress during childhood or adolescence. Otoplasty offers an aesthetic solution by reshaping the ears to the desired shape.

The surgery is performed using two different methods:

  1. Ear Pinning Surgery: An approximately 3 cm incision is made behind the ear, then the cartilage is shaped as desired and secured. Stitch removal is not required, and the procedure typically takes between 30 minutes to 2 hours. The patient is discharged on the same day.
  1. Thread Ear Correction: This method, performed under local anesthesia, does not involve surgical incision. The ear is moved backward and secured with threads. The operation takes about 30 minutes and allows the patient to return to daily life immediately.

Both methods require the use of a bandage for a certain period to facilitate the postoperative period. The patient can return to normal activities within the first few days, and the recovery process is usually completed within 20 days.

Ear pinning surgeries can be performed during the pre-school period to positively contribute to the child's psychological development. Outside of this period, the operation can be safely performed at any age.
